Eusebius for Bible Works and Hebrew Pedagogy (Links of Interest)

A few links of interest:

First, Eusebius’ Ecclesiastical History is available now as a free BibleWorks module. Check it out at Michael Hanel’s blog for instructions on how to download and install it. The module contains both the Greek and English text. This is a great resource! Thanks, Michael!

Second, Robert Holmstedt at the blog, Ancient Hebrew Grammar, has a post on a survey he took regarding pedagogy for Northwest Semitic languages. Holmstedt appears to be exploring communicative methods for teaching Hebrew and other Semitic languages. Of course, as Holmstedt notes, we don’t have enough material from some languages (Ugaritic, e.g.) to communicate very well in them. I still think that communicative techniques can help in such situations, especially for acquiring vocabulary, but meaningful fluency is simply not a realistic goal. Thankfully, we don’t have that problem with Greek!

Finally, make sure to check out the series that Eric Killian has begun at The Time Has Been Shortened. Eric is a current MA student at Criswell College and is passionate about learning and teaching Classical and Modern Hebrew communicatively. His first post in the series deals with some of the basic differences between modern Hebrew dialects and their pronunciation.
